Dov Schlein is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of NuVerse Advisors LLC. Prior to founding NuVerse Advisors LLC, Mr. Schlein was an advisor to the group chairman of HSBC Holdings on Israel. Prior to that, he served as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Republic New York Corporation and Republic National Bank of New York.
Mr. Schlein joined Republic National Bank of New York as a Vice President in 1976. Over the next 24 years, Mr. Schlein served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and President of Republic National Bank of New York. In 1998, Republic New York Corporation and Republic National Bank of New York appointed Mr. Schlein Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank and Corporation. Prior to Mr. Schlein’s tenure with Republic, he spent six years in KPMG’s audit department.
Mr. Schlein received his Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors and Masters of Business Administration from Baruch College of the City University of New York, Zicklin School of Business. Mr. Schlein is a Certified Public Accountant in New York. In addition, Mr. Schlein’s professional memberships have included the Economic Club of New York, the Bankers Roundtable, and the New York Commodity Exchange, Inc. (COMEX). Mr. Schlein also is a trustee of the Baruch College Fund, a member of its Business Advisory Council, and has served on its Executive Committee.
Elias Saal is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of NuVerse Advisors LLC. Prior to founding NuVerse Advisors LLC, Mr. Saal was the President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Private Banking Americas and Head of the HSBC Bank USA Treasury. Prior to that, he was President and Director of Republic National Bank, Chairman of the Executive Committee and a Director of Republic New York Corporation.
Mr. Saal joined Republic as a trader in 1982. In 1985, he opened Republic’s Uruguay office and served as Chief Executive Officer. He subsequently became General Manager of Republic’s Buenos Aires office and Regional Manager for Uruguay and Argentina in 1988. In 1991, Mr. Saal began serving as Regional Manager for continental Europe. In 1994, Mr. Saal was appointed General Manager and member of the executive committee of Republic National Bank of New York (Suisse).
Mr. Saal received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in economics from Hebrew University in Israel. He also attended the Ph.D. program in Economics at the University of Chicago. Mr. Saal previously taught at St. Xavier University’s MBA program and is a member of the Economic Club of New York.
Stephen Saali is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of NuVerse Advisors LLC. Prior to founding NuVerse Advisors LLC, Mr. Saali was an Executive Vice President of HSBC Bank USA. Prior to that, he was President of Republic New York Corporation and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Republic National Bank of New York. During Mr. Saali’s tenure in those positions, he was instrumental in the approximately $10 billion sale of Republic New York Corporation and its affiliate Safra Republic Holding to HSBC Holdings.
Mr. Saali joined Republic as a member of its management-training program in 1988. In his twelve years with Republic, he received eight promotions and was appointed President in 1998. During this time, he coordinated Republic’s global acquisitions, capital markets activities, and alternative investing which included the acquisition of Manhattan Savings Bank, Brooklyn Bancorp and Canary Wharf. He also helped launch the public offering of Safra Republic Holdings and arranged several innovative products, including the 1,000-year bond for Safra Republic Holdings and the 100-year note for Republic New York Corporation.
Prior to joining Republic, Mr. Saali worked at Salomon Brothers, where he was in the investment banking program and stock research area. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University with a dual major in economics and organizational behavior. He received his Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University with a dual major in international business and finance. He is also a member of the Economic Club of New York.
